Subject: why he BEGGED to sleep on the couch (true story)

This morning I was thinking about something
that was a pretty ‘big deal’ in my life.

As you probably know…..

4 1/2 years ago I was at rock bottom.

And confused.

One day….

I literally crawled my way onto my dad’s front
porch – when I couldn’t take another day of the
miserable life I was living.

I Was Broken.

I remember knocking on his door – him looking
at my sunken face – and saying….

“Son. What have you done to yourself?”

I didn’t have an answer.

I could only mutter the words…..

“I don’t know how I got here. But if you’ll let me
crash on your couch and get back on my feet I’ll do
everything I can to turn things around….”

4 1/2 years later….

…last Monday – after coming home and sleeping
for 5 hours, exhausted from the most amazing
and exhilarating weekend …ever – I asked my Dad
casually if he wanted to grab a quick bite over
coffee at a diner near my house.

When we finished, just as we went to get up
and leave, he stopped and looked at me dead in
my eyes….and said:

“Son, you’ve come a long way from sleeping on
my couch.”

Sometimes you just want to make someone proud.

For years, that someone was my Dad. Today, I’m
grateful to have a Dad (and an awesome step Dad)
….and be a Dad myself.

I got HUGE props to anyone out there being a
Father to their kids – or making an effort to.

Everything Counts

And It’s never to late.

Happy Father’s Day, fellas.

And mad love to all the single Moms out there :-)

Stay real.

And never quit on your dreams….

….or your people.

Once I went to work on the farm with my dad. Unexpectedly, he needed to move a taoctrr a few miles down the road but had no one to drive his pick-up behind him. So he had me (age 7 at the time) get in. After a quick explanation of how a STICK SHIFT works, I assured him I was ready. Wrong! I ended up driving an extra few miles down the road until I could turn around without having to shift gears, all the while freaking out! About 3/4 of the way back, there he was on his way to find me. Needless to say, I didn’t drive alone for quite some time.

If it weren’t for Dave Miller, I wouldn’t have a dad My bialigocol father split when I was just a baby. I’ve never known him. My mother remarried and this man has been my dad ever since. He has emotionally supported me, morally supported me, and financially supported me. He instilled hard work and ethics in me at a very young age. He also taught me the importance of school. Once I turned 18, I was forced by law to use my bialigocol father’s last name but he will never be my dad. As I graduate with my first college degree next Friday, I have hyphened my last name on my diploma to show my dad that it was HIM that taught me that hard work and determination will pay off.I remind him every father’s day that it takes a true man to raise another man’s child as his own. And THAT is my favorite memory of my dad.
